The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum was inaugurated on October 8, 1992 to house one of the finest and most prestigious private collections in the world. one of the finest and most prestigious private collections in the world. The Thyssen-Bornemisza family, this collection was acquired by the Spanish State in July 1993 and comprises a chronological arc that spans from the late thirteenth century to the decade of the eighties of the twentieth century. The Permanent Collection is the one we will see; it is distributed on three floors with a suggested tour that begins on the second floor with medieval painting. The visit begins with the medieval Italians to continue with Renaissance and Baroque manifestations. In the initial rooms of the second floor the Dutch school is extended, which is grouped into scenes of everyday life and landscapes to finish with still lifes. Modern Painting begins in room 29 with two galleries dedicated to 19th century American art, followed by Impressionism, Post-Impressionism and German Expressionism. The first floor is reserved for the 20th century, with outstanding representations of works belonging to cubism, abstraction, surrealism, pop art and pop art. surrealism, pop art or figuration in post-war Europe. It is the only museum in Madrid with such a long chronological axis. IMPORTANT: The Carmen Thyssen Collection is not included in the explanations, but can be seen by customers on their own, there are days that may be closed the same.Includes
