Description

The Gallery of the Royal Collections' extensive exhibition spans 1000 years of history, featuring items from different corners of the world. In this private tour, your expert guide will take you to an insightful but approachable tour towards the museum’s rooms, sharing stories about the origin of Madrid, the family affairs of the Habsburg and the Bourbon dynasties and the daily life in the court. You will learn about the conquests and defeats of the Spanish Empire, discovering forgotten artists and curious objects through a curated selection of pieces. You will stumble on the archeological remains of the medieval wall of Madrid, wonderfully preserved period costumes and armors, original paintings by Patinir, Caravaggio, Velázquez and Goya, and flamboyant carriages from the 17th and 18th centuries (among other unexpected items). With your guide, you will learn about the customs and daily life of the Spanish court, and find yourself immersed in a glamorous (and dramatic!) past. Once you finish the tour inside the museum, your guide will take you across the back door of one of the most beautiful gardens in Madrid: the Campo del Moro park. Although the garden dates back to the 16th Century, it was renovated in the 19th Century and it's filled with monuments and beauty. It is, indeed, the best addition to a tour in Madrid. Your guide will take you to a nice stroll across the lush woods and cozy meadows, and end the tour with the best view of the Royal Palace of Madrid. If you want to stay at the gardens after the tour, you will be able to enjoy the wonderful nature and monumental wealth of the royal domains: leafy woods (more than 70 different species of trees live here!), statues, fountains, walks and rock gardens. And the end of the tour, you will leave with a deeper understanding of the history and art of Spain and, even better, many remarkable memories of your time in Madrid.

Important Information

This tour is fully accessible and follows a nice pace. Please, note that due to the duration of the tour (3 hours), it might not be appropriate for little children. Seniors (+65) and kids in between 12 and 16 must present a valid ID (or a copy) at the entry for the reduced ticket fare. All minors must be accompanied by an adult. All visitors must pass through airport-style security. Backpacks and big bags will need to be left at individual lockers. Please, note than in the event of bad weather forecast (strong wind or rain), the gardens can be closed without prior advice. In case this happens, the tour inside the gallery will be extended to meet the total duration of the tour.
